In the present investigation the in vitro antibacterial activity of the methanolic extracts of Curcuma longa (Toothpick), Zingiber officinale (Ginger) and the combination of Curcuma longa with Zingiber officinale (1:1), against strains of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27833 was determined, by the disc diffusion method "Kirby-Bauer". Samples were collected at random from the locality of Indiana, located on the banks of the Amazon River - Province of Maynas, for later taxonomic identification in the Herbarium Amazonense of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP). In the production of methanol extracts, it was determined that the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale and the combination of Curcuma longa with Zingiber officinale (1:1) had higher yield (18.90% and 16.54% respectively). Gentamicin and ciprofloxacin discs were established as a positive control and disks impregnated with distilled water as a negative control for the sensitivity test. When determining the antibacterial activity of plant extracts at concentrations of 4 mg / mL (40%), 6 mg / mL (60%), 8 mg / mL (80%) and 10 mg / mL (100%), it was established that the extract of Zingiber officinale presented halos of inhibition of 5.0 ± 1.0 mm and 7.0 ± 1.0 mm at the concentrations of 8 mg / mL and 10 mg / mL, respectively, against Staphylococcus aureus; while the combined extract of Curcuma longa with Zingiber officinale (1:1), at concentrations of 8 mg / mL and 10 mg / mL, presented halos of inhibition of 7.0 ± 1.0 mm and 9.0 ± 1.0 mm, respectively, compared to Staphylococcus aureus. As for the extract of C. longa, it did not present antibacterial activity against any of the three bacterial species under study, at the concentrations mentioned. It is concluded that the methanolic extracts of both plant species showed no antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, since the results obtained compared with the positive controls were not significant.
