The excessive irrational use of antibiotics causes bacteria to develop resistance against them, so in the present research work the phytochemical screening was carried out and the in vitro antibacterial activity of the entire plant of Phyllanthus fluitans Benth was determined. Ex Müll. Arg. Against bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, for which ethanolic, dichloromethane and ethereal extracts were used, at concentrations of 26, 30 and 34 mg / mL, 30 and 34 mg / mL, and 34 mg / mL, respectively. For the phytochemical screening the method of Schabra et al.; for the antibacterial activity, the Disc Diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer). The sample was collected in the Itaya river located geographically at 3° 46´11.79´´ Latitude and 73° 14´26.89´´ Longitude, then sent to the HERBARIUM AMAZONENSE of the UNAP for taxonomic identification. The results of the yield percentages for each extract were 4.66%, 2.11% and 0.59%, respectively. In the phytochemical screening of the ethanolic and dichloromethane extracts, steroids, phenols and lactones were found; the presence of steroids and lactones was evident in the ethereal extract. Regarding the analysis of the antibacterial activity against the bacterial strains S. aureus and E. coli, in the ethanolic, dichloromethane and ethereal extracts, no sensitivity was found; In this method ciprofloxacin was used as a positive control and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) discs as a negative control. It is concluded that the ethanolic and dichloromethane extracts have an abundant presence of steroids, phenols and a small amount of lactones and that the ethereal extract has a medium amount of steroids and a small amount of lactones. None of the extracts presented antibacterial activity.
