The objective of the research was to determine the risk factors associated with surgical site infections in post-cesarean patients of the Hospital Santa Gema de Yurimaguas. January-December, 2017. The type of research is qualitative, with a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional scope. The research design is of a non-experimental, correlational type. The population consisted of 727 patients whose delivery culminated by caesarean section. The sample was represented by 20 cases of patients who presented infection of the operative site; for the control case, a representative sample of 232 post-cesarean patients who attended the maternity service from January to December 2017 was obtained. The technique used was the documentary analysis; the instrument, a data collection form. The results show that the incidence of operative site infection during the year 2017 was 2.7% of cases for every 100 patients attended whose culmination route was a cesarean delivery. The average age of patients who developed the postoperative complication was 21 years with a minimum of 16 years and a maximum of 25 years. Sixty percent of patients who presented surgical site infection had the obesity risk factor. 65% of the cases of patients with septic focus the operative wound had at least one previous cesarean section. 35% of the cases with surgical site infection had preeclampsia as an associated comorbidity. Of 20 patients who presented infection of the operative site, 70% of them had anemia. 100% of the cases found were intervened through the segmental incision technique. Patients with surgical wound infection were hospitalized for an average time of 5 days found a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 10 days. Risk factors such as obesity, previous caesarean section, preeclampsia, anemia and the segmental incision technique presented the Pearson chi-square value greater than the critical value with a significance of 0.05% and a level of reliability of 95%. The null hypothesis accepting the alternative hypothesis. Therefore: Risk factors such as: Obesity, previous C-section, pre-eclampsia / eclampsia, anemia and the body's surgical technique are associated with surgical site infections in post-cesarean patients of the Hospital Santa Gema de Yurimaguas. January-December, 2017.
