The human body produces a balanced way free radicals and antioxidants, but when there is disorder in the synthesis and degradation of them, inevitably tends to occur in an oxidative stress that increases the generation of these radicals, which are related to disease incidence degenerative diseases: cancer, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and so on. The therapeutic agents of the plants responsible for preventing, alleviating or curing diseases, we offer unsurpassed opportunity for discovery of new natural compounds with different activities. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity in vitro and determine the total polyphenol concentration of extracts from Bixa orellana L in theirs eigth morphotyps that is at the city. Methanol extracts were obtained from the whole plant and leaves that were previously dried in an oven at 60 ° C for 24 hours and ground. Antioxidants were by maceration for 48 hours and milled at room temperature and total polyphenols by the Folin-Ciocalteu. The antioxidant capacity was measured by the method of DPPH***. Morphotyp 5 was the eigth morphotyps, which had a higher percentage of inhibition against the radical DPPH*** with 86.171 ± 0.611% and the minus percentage of inhibition was the morphotyp 3 con 79.899 ± 1.261. The antioxidant capacity measured as IC50 (inhibitory concentration 50%) from morphotyp 1 was 0,160 ± 0,117 mg/ml, morphotyp 2 with 0,163 ± 0,035 mg/ml, morphotyp 3 with 0,146 ± 0,006 mg/ml, morphotyp 4 with 0,167 ± 0,024 mg/ml, morphotyp 5 with 0,185 ± 0,012 mg/ml, morphotyp 6 with 0,195 ± 0,023 mg/ml, morphotyp 7 with 0,221 ± 0,003 mg/ml, morphotyp 8 with 0,188 ± 0,008 mg/ml; in terms of total polyphenols was what morphotyp 3 most presented with total polyphenols with 48,719.738 ± 0,3581 mg de CTQ**/100g and totals polyphenols was what morphotyp 4 minus presented with total polyphenols with 43,445.673 ± 0,523 mg de CTQ**/100g. The correlation between totals polyphenols concentration and the capacity of inhibition to 50% of the extracts of Bixa orellana L in the 8 morphotyps were negative because is not diferent stadistic significative plasmed in the test t with level of significant to 0,05.
