Drug interaction is a major cause of morbidity and mortality that is part of the drug-related problems in patients who need to be seen in its many pathologies. Results may be a greater than expected response, a decrease of the effectiveness of one or both drugs or unanticipated toxicity. Objective:To describe drug interactions in patients hospitalized in the Hospital Medicine Service Essalud m- Loreto, in the months ofFebruary to May 2011. Methods: A descriptive, prospective, correlational study time was 04 months, which included a total of 268 patients of both sexes, and age groups ranging from 18 to over age. Treated at the Hospital Medicine Service Essalud m - Loreto. Data collection was conducted through interviews, selecting patients randomly within a defined time. Key Findings: It was determined that a total of 268 patients, 58.2% showed a possible drug interaction, of which 9.5% was Clinically Important, the average age was 56 years, predominantly female appearance at the 51.1 %. The average number of drugs prescribed was 6.5, with 285 combinations of possible drug interactions of which 4.2% of them were between Diclofenac + Paracetamol 500 mg and 75mg Nifedipine 1 Omg + Theophylline 250 mg and of 570 prescribed drugs in patients with possible interaction 32.8% of they are located within the Muscle System - Skeletal System under Classification, anatomical therapeutic chemical and the most frequently prescribed drug was Diclofenac interactions to 8.6% depending on the type of interaction the rate was 51.6% Pharmacokinetic. Conclusions: There is a high frequency of drug interaction in patients in the medical service, with important clinical manifestations that require therapeutic measures. Research in this field are still scarce and isolated nationally, so it is imperative to conduct studies to report, document, analyze and report on drug interactions in hospitalized patients in the various departments of the hospitals.
