This study was conducted in the metropolitan city of Iquitos, comprising the districts of Punchana, Iquitos, Bethlehem and San Juan Bautista, Province of Maynas, department of Loreto; whose objective was to evaluate the influence of the reduction of green areas in the emergence of heat islands in the city of Iquitos in the last decade. According to the results the existence of a horizontal temperature gradient influenced by Itaya and Nanay rivers, which act as thermoregulatory determined temperatures, causing slower increases are very different to what happens within the town. Green areas, it was determined that the greatest percentage loss of green areas occurs in the southern sector of the city of Iquitos, ie, a gradient from south to north is manifest. Of green areas not identified in this study, there is very little surface area occupied by industrial facilities or water bodies; by contrast, are the built-up areas and streets that occupy almost the entire surface of the grids, especially in the urban center of the districts under study, ie, has been that while the location of dwellings located near the center of the city has less green areas. Therefore, we have determined a loss of vegetation cover 15% of the total area of the city of Iquitos in the period from 2005 to 2014, with a loss rate of 2.22% per annum. The few green areas that remain tempered or decrease temperatures Iquitos, in particular sectors and Vargas Guerra Military Fort San Roque (airport). Follow the trend of formation Heat Islands, we are exposed to changes in the patterns of other variables such as the occurrence of extremely "strong" considered within the category of Extreme Events winds.
