This study was conducted in the Tahuamanu province, one of the three provinces that make up the Department of Madre de Dios and is located at the northeastern end of the Department, bordered on the Northwest by the Department of Ucayali and to the North and East with the republics of Brazil and Bolivia, respectively. It includes the whole of the basin of the Tahuamanu River and Muymanu and part of the basins of Chandless River and of the Purus River, whose waters flow into Brazilian territory. This province consists of three districts: Iñapari, Iberia and Tahuamanu.geograficamente, the territory of the province Tahuamanu, is framed between the 09 ° 52´40 ' South latitude and 72 ° 10´44 "West longitude and has an estimated land area of 2´031458 hectares, representing 24.8% of the departmental area. Tahuamanu, sits naturally in the region forest, specifically in the area South East of the region, its altitude varies from 200 meters and goes to 600 meters. The objective of the study was to apply the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method for the identification of areas suitable for the growth of Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa HBK), confines of conservation and exploitation. Results high fitness zones are 313 057.2396 hectares which occupies approximately 30% of the surface of the Tahuamanu province. These areas are mainly found in the South and Southeast part of the province; between the rivers Tahuamanu, Muymanu and Manu; and that mostly match the concessions extractors that exist in this place. Multicriteria, in this case the AHP evaluation, is suitable to evaluate the natural fitness for chestnut Bertolletia excelsa HBK, integrating physiography, climate, water balance and soil criteria in a GIS environment The hierarchical analytic process in combination with GIS used in this study, are useful tools, but the quality of the results depends largely on cartographic information, expert opinion and information on the requirements of the species, obtained from the literature review.
