OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine which factors are associated with premature loss of deciduous molars, using the clinical records of 6 to 10 year old patients treated at the odontopediatrics clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, UNAP 2006-2016. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The type of research was quantitative; non-experimental, transverse, corrective and retrospective. The sample consisted of 329 clinical records belonging to the patients treated at the odontopediatrics clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, UNAP. The instrument used was the data collection tab, where the odontogram was included, the independent variables (sex, age, brushing frequency, oral hygiene, visit to the dentist) and dependent variable (PPMD) were recorded. RESULTS: Among the most important findings of the study were the following: the percentage of PPMD was 61.1%. As for the tooth with the highest loss frequency was 7.5 seconds lower left molar with 31.6%. 31.3% (103 patients) of children had PPMD of 3 or more teeth (severe). The 19.1% of children who lost 3 or more deciduous molars prematurely were male. 28.9% of children who lost 3 or more deciduous molars were prematurely 7 to more years old. 29.8% of children who lost 3 or more deciduous molars were prematurely brushed less than 3 times a day. 24.4% of children who lost 3 or more deciduous molars prematurely had poor oral hygiene. 29.8% of children who lost 3 or more deciduous molars prematurely visited the dentist after 6 months. There is a significant relationship of PPMD with: sex (p = 0.000), age (p = 0.000), brushing frequency (p = 0.000), oral hygiene (p = 0.005) and visit to the dentist (p = 0.000). In conclusion, all factors are related to PPMD.
