The present research study was conducted with the objective of determining the relationship between maternal knowledge and initiation of complementary feeding in children under 1 year old, San Antonio Health Center, Iquitos 2017. The method used was quantitative, descriptive design- cross-section of correlational type. The population was 190 mothers, the sample consisted of 127 mothers for data collection, a questionnaire on maternal knowledge and initiation of complementary feeding in children under 1 year was used. Among the findings found were: 100.0% (127) mothers 63.0% (80) of the mothers qualified with deficient knowledge while 37.0% (47) presented efficient knowledge on initiation of complementary feeding. Of the 100% (127) children studied, 75.6% (96) had optimal initiation of complementary feeding, while 24.4% (31) started non-optimal. When relating maternal knowledge and the beginning of complementary feeding, X2 = 7.669 gl = 1 p = 0.006 α = 0.05 was found, determining that there is a significant statistical relationship. There is a statistically significant relationship between the level of knowledge of mothers and the start of complementary feeding in children under 1 year of health center San Antonio, Iquitos 2017.
