The objective of this research study was to assess the effectiveness of a learner-training program based on textual structure in order to improve fifth year students’ writing skills in English at Maynas public secondary school, Iquitos 2017. The type of research was experimental and quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and control group. The population consisted of 114 students and a deterministic sample of 37 students divided into two groups: The experimental group with 18 and control group with 19 students. The data gathering tools were written performance test and rubrics. After the learner training program, results show that the experimental group outperformed the control group as their mean score was higher (15, 50 > 9, 37). In conclusion, the use of textual structures improved significantly the study populations’ writing skills as p-value was 0,000 < α = 0, 05, accepting the working hypothesis.
