Currently the pharmacoresistance reported in the treatment of malaria is considered a public health problem around the world. The chloroquine antimalarial first-line against malaria is being removed or replaced in some countries, this encourage identify new active principle against this disease. Therefore, this study evaluated the antimalarial activity in vitro by 04 species Rauwolfia from our region with reference to the Apocynaceae family and flow cytometry was used to evaluate the study. In total 21 between ethanolic and alkaloid extracts were obtained from the species in study. The acid and basic alkaloid root extracts of Rauwolfia macrantha and the basic alkaloid stem extracts of Rauwolfia sprucei shown good antimalarial activity (IC50 = 2.80μg/ml; IC50 = 3.91μg/ml; IC50 = 3.96μg/ml) respectively; the acid alcaloidal stem extract and the basic alkaloid leaves extract of Rauwolfia macrantha( IC50 = 6 μg/ml; IC50 = 7.14 μg/ml) respectively, the basic alkaloid leaves extract of Rauvolfia paraensis (IC50 = 7.09 μg/ml) , the ethanolic root extract of Rauwolfia paraensis ( IC50 = 8.37 μg/ml) and ethanolic stem extract of Rauvolfia sprucei (IC50 = 9.10 μg/ml) shown moderate antimalarial activity against chloroquine-resistant FCR-3 strain of Plasmodium falciparum, among them the acid alkaloid extract from root of Rauvolfia macrantha, (IC50 = 2.80μg/ml) inhibited 50% of the parasite population to the lowest concentration in the evaluation. Through phytochemical screening were determined the regular presence of alkaloids; steroids; flavonoids and reducing sugars in all extracts.
