This study aimed to determine the relationship between dental malocclusion and orthodontic treatment need of secondary schoolchildren in the LE. Rosa Agustina Morey Donayre 2010. The type of research was quantitative; the design was correlational, cross. The random sample consisted of 1 77 students. The instrument used to identify dental malocclusion and orthodontic treatment need was an Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN), both were validated by use. The children were evaluated according to the two components of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN), namely, the Oral Health Component (DHC) and aesthetic component (AC). Among the most important findings were found: prevalent malocclusions were: overjet (29, 4%), overbite (20, 3%), displacement of contacts point (18, 1 %) impeded eruption of teeth (3, 4%), hypodontia (8, 5%), open bite (6, 8 %), crossbite (12, 4%). Data were recorded in the questionnaire to assess the dental health component (DHC). The aesthetic component (AC) was evaluated both by students and examiners. The results of DHC of IOTN were: 4.0% of the population showed a very serious need, 20.9% showed severe need, moderate need 25.4%, 41.8% had little need, and 7.9% presented no need for orthodontic treatment. The evaluation ofthe AC, 39,1% had little or no need, 43,7% moderate and 17,2% need great need of orthodontic treatment.
