There are factors that can influence the academic performance of students (for example, the overload of tasks and academic work, the personality and character of the teacher, the evaluations of teachers, the type of work required of teachers, time limited to do the work, etc.). The objective of this research was to analyze the influence and relationship between stress and academic performance in students of Human Medicine at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon. Iquitos, 2012. The cross-sectional non-experimental design of descriptive-correlational type was used to describe and analyze the independent and dependent variables related to stress and its relationship with academic performance. The sample consists of 134 students chosen at random, from the first to the seventh Level of Studies of the Faculty of Human Medicine of the UNAP. The SISCO Inventory was used as a data collection instrument, whose validity and reliability criteria are universally accepted. Tables of one-dimensional, two-dimensional frequencies and percentages were used for the descriptive analysis of the data. The results showed that 76.9% (103 students) had a medium level of stress, 23.1% (31 students) had a low level of stress and no student with a high level of stress. Regarding academic performance, 81.3% (109 students) presented average academic performance; 13.4% (18 students), low academic performance; and, 5.2% (7 students), high academic performance. In conclusion, a statistically significant relationship was determined (p <0.05) between stress level and Academic Performance.
