The present study aimed to compare saliva pH when using mouthwashes with alcohol- Essential Oils and alcohol free- cetylpyridinium chloride in the volunteer staff of the Peruvian Air Force- Iquitos, 2016. The type of research was quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive design Materials and Methods: Salivary pH of 31 patients with Hanna Checker 1 digital pH meter (HI 98103) at 5 different times: before rinsing, at 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 40 minutes after rinsing in both mouthwashes, obtaining 310 samples. For a statistical analysis we used BIOSTAT version 5.3, the Student's T test of 5% was applied, after which a POST HOC was made, using the BONFERRONI method to adjust the significance to 0.005%. Results: In the sampling of the mouthwash with alcohol obtained a median of the initial pH= 7.49, after the rinse at 5 minutes= 7.92 (p = <0.0001), at 10 minutes= 7.50 (p = 0.413), at 20 minutes = 7.40 (P = 0.0145) and at 40 minutes= 7.09 (p = <0.0001). Meanwhile, with the alcohol-free mouthwash, a median initial = 7.84 (p = 0.7159), after the rinsing at 5 minutes= 7.82 (p = 0.7159), at 10 minutes= 7.64 (p = 0.9153), at 20 minutes= 7.36 (p = 0.001) at 40 minutes= 7.82 (p = <0.0001). Conclusions: The saliva pH with the mouthwash with alcohol is not acidified and with the mouthwash without alcohol it maintains its alkalinity. Both mouthwashes demonstrate the buffering effect of saliva so it can be extrapolated that at the times used the alkaline salivary pH is maintained.
