The objective of this research work was the isolation and structural determination of alkaloids from the root of Tabernaemontana heterophylla Vahl - lobo sanango. The research was developed at the Facilities of the Amazonian Natural Resources Research Center (CIRNA) / Amazonian Natural Antiparasitic Products Research Laboratory (LIPNAA) in the Phytochemistry area of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP) and the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA) - CSIC La Laguna, Tenerife - SPAIN. The root of the plant species Tabernaemontana heterophylla Vahl “lobo sanango”, was collected in the Community of Mazán in the non-flooded area of the Loreto region. From the dried and ground root of Tabernaemontana heterophylla Vahl, the ethanolic extract was obtain by maceration (123 g) from which the acid alkaloidal extract (6.17 g) was obtained. The chromatographic fractionation of the 6.17 g of acid alkaloidal extract led to the obtaining of 167 fractions from which two alkaloids, Coronaridine hydroxyindolenine, Ibogamine-5,6-Dione and a non-alkaloidal compound 2, 6, 2', 6'- Tetra methoy – 4, 4'bis (2,3-epoxy- (2, 3, epoxy-1 hydroxypropyl) bipphenyl, were isolated. The chemical structures were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry.
