Diabetes mellitus is today one of the major chronic degenerative diseases of our environment caused not only by bad living habits but also by the lack of care and service limitations of promotional preventive health, presenting various oral manifestations, which we will highlight xerostomia. Objective: To determine the relationship of xerostomia and diabetes mellitus in patients treated at the Regional Hospital of Loreto the months of July and August 2016. Method: This study was a prospective, epidemiological, descriptive, transverse and correlational where salivary flow of patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2 controlled treated at the outpatient clinic of the Regional Hospital of Loreto "Felipe Santiago Arriola Iglesias" was measured the months of July and August 2016 and underwent TSG (global salivary Test "Schirmer") (sialometry). Results: The sample consisted of 175 patients, of whom 129 (73.7%) women and 46 (26.3%) men. The average age of the patients was 55.25 years with a standard deviation of ± 11.48 years. Conclusion: It is shown that the correlation between the type of diabetes mellitus and xerostomia in patients with diabetes mellitus treated at the Regional Hospital of Loreto from July to August 2016 with a significance of p = 0.027 (p <0.05). thus demonstrating the relationship between the two variables in question. It has 60 (34.3%) patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus xerostomia have very low.
