OBJECTIVE: To determine the level of knowledge and practices of preventive measures on leptospirosis in residents of the community of Moronillo - Punchana, 2018 MATERIALS AND METHODS: It was quantitative, not experimental design, descriptive, correlational. The sample size consisted of 169 inhabitants. The instruments used were the questionnaire on knowledge and the checklist which had a validity of 97.64% and 97.5% respectively, through the Delphi method or expert judgment; with a reliability of 81.6% both instruments, according to Cronbach's Alpha. The data were analyzed through the statistical program SPSS version 22. In the univariate analysis, descriptive statistics were used to show the data in frequency tables, percentages and graphs. In the bivariate analysis, were used inferential statistics when analyzing the relationship of the variables under study with α <0.05, as a criterion of significance. RESULTS: According to the results, of the 169 (100%) inhabitants in the study, 38 (22.5%) inhabitants presented an adequate level of knowledge about Leptospirosis and 131 (77.5%) presented inadequate knowledge. In the application of the checklist, it was observed that 20 (11.8%) inhabitants practice preventive measures and 149 (88.2%) do not. In the hypothesis test X2 = 78.2 was obtained, with p = 0.000 (p <0.05) and contingency coefficient = 0.562, indicates that the alternative hypothesis is accepted CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that there is a significant positive relationship between the level of knowledge and the practices of preventive measures on Leptospirosis.
