The investigation was developed in the city of Iquitos, with the purpose of evaluating the quality of water for human consumption of the city of Iquitos, regarding the Organoleptic and Microbiological Parameters of Compulsory Control. The research was of descriptive-qualitative type, with a general non-experimental design and specific descriptive cross-sectional design. Measurements were made of the field parameters, which consisted of pH, turbidity and residual chlorine, as well as microbiological and parasitological samples. The population consisted of 58,000 homes distributed in the districts of Iquitos, Punchana, San Juan and Belén. The sample was made up of 480 homes. The results obtained do not show that the water consumed by the city of Iquitos contains adequate concentrations of Residual Chlorine (95% of the samples contained adequate concentrations of residual chlorine). The pH of the water is not in adequate concentrations. The turbidity of the water remains within the maximum permissible limits. Drinking water distributed in the city of Iquitos does not present parasitological contamination, however, it presents problems of the presence of free-living organisms, mostly algae and diatoms. Considering the 123 parameters established in the D.S 031-2010-SA Regulation of the Quality of Water for Human Consumption, it is concluded that the water consumed by the city of Iquitos is NOT suitable for human consumption because of the presence of Free Life Organisms.
