An investigation was carried out whose main objective was to verify if there was a direct and significant relationship between learning styles and academic performance in the subjects of Communication and Mathematics in 5th grade students. Secondary Degree of the Public Secondary Educational Institution for Minor Mayors. Punchana, 2017. For this purpose, the Kolb Learning Style Inventory was applied and the scores on school performance in the subjects of Communication and Mathematics were collected. Kolb's Learning Style Inventory was duly validated by judges' criteria and its reliability was established by Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient. The Kolb Inventory was applied to the 150 5th graders. Secondary Degree of the Public Secondary Educational Institution for Minor Mayors. Punchana, 2017. The type of research was descriptive. The focus of the research was quantitative since the applied Inventory provided numerical scores which were statistically processed in order to verify the degree of correlation between the variables considered. The study was cross-sectional since the research data was collected at a specific place and time. The level of research was "correlational." The design of the research was "non-experimental" because no variable was manipulated. The technique used to collect the information was "observation by survey". As the level of the investigation was the correlation, Spearman's Rho correlation analysis was applied for the verification of the hypotheses. The results were analyzed and interpreted, contrasting the hypotheses raised with the findings of the statistical processing. The hypotheses were considered proven if the correlations obtained were positive and significant at a level of p: 0.05. Likewise, the respective graphs and the corresponding analyzes were elaborated. The statistical processing was carried out with the statistical program SPSS version 22. The theoretical framework related to learning styles and academic performance was reviewed. The hypotheses were verified in the sense that learning styles and academic performance are significantly associated. The conclusions of the case were presented and the respective recommendations formulated.
