This research determined the hypoglycaemic effect of lyophilized aqueous extract of A. rufescens Abuta at doses of 14.6 mg / kg / pc. and 29.36 mg / kg / pc. on hyperglycemia induced in Holtzmann strain male albino rats, by comparative experimental study with control group (glibenclamide). The substances to be evaluated is administered orally 7 days after induction of experimental diabetes with a solution of streptozotocin (STZ) at a dose of 40 mg / kg / pc. (Ip) to albino rats normoglycemic with average body weight of 270 +10 g with previous 12-hour fast. The experimental groups consisted of 40 rats were randomly assigned to 5 groups; 1st. saline group, 2nd. group streptozotocin (STZ) 3rd and 4th group Abuta rufescens A. at the doses tested and the 5th group Glibenclamide at a dose of 0.4 mg. At the end of the study was conducted of all animals euthanized by cervical dislocation. According to the results obtained, the dried aqueous extract of A. rufescens Abuta at doses of 14.6 mg / kg / pc. and 29.36 mg / kg / pc. decrease in serum glucose 78.16% and 80.74% respectively, found statistically significant results (p <0.05) in blood glucose, compared with baseline hyperglycemia also found statistically significant differences with control groups (saline and glibenclamide). These results are indicative of the hypoglycemic activity of lyophilized aqueous extract of A. rufescens Abuta, diabetes mellitus type 2.
