This research was conducted in the city of Tarapoto, specifically in the greenhouse vegetatively propagated IIAP-San Martin, District of Tarapoto, Province of San Martin, San Martin region, the effect of leaf area was determined in the vegetative propagation of Coffea arabica L. "cafeto" by rooting of shoots under controlled conditions in San Martin. Outbreaks were disinfected with propineb to 17.5g / dose 5 liters of water; three leaf area percentages of 25%, 50% and 100% was used; buds were subjected to a dose of 2000ppm hormone indole-3-butyric acid (AIB), then they were placed in jiffy pellets and finally introduced into Microtuneles with controlled conditions to promote rooting. design completely randomly divided (DPDCA), the results plots used for the distribution of treatments, were analyzed considering 03 percentage folia area, each percentage corresponds to a plot; The design includes 03 repetitions, ie 09 experimental units, each experimental unit was made up of 6 outbreaks, so it had a population of 54 outbreaks. After 60 days the experiment installed outbreaks were evaluated for the variables: percentage of After 60 days the experiment installed the following variables were evaluated. The data were systematized and subjected to analysis of variance and Tukey test. Abiotic factors (light, temperature and humidity) were also evaluated for 10 days sunny and 10 cloudy days. It concluded that the optimum leaf area to achieve a good percentage of rooting is 27.61cm2 (50% leaf area), with the leaf area was possible to obtain 86% of rooting.
