The objective of the present study was to determine some of the main reproductive parameters of the palometa Mylossoma duriventre, one of the main species landed in the Loreto region, Peruvian Amazon. A total of 1,597 individuals sampled over 19 sampling months (July 2006 - January 2008) were analyzed. We elaborated a macroscopic scale of gonadal maturation that comprises 6 stages for females and 4 stages for males. The species reproduces over five months from October to February, during the rainy season and the first part of the flooding period. The length at first sexual maturity is reached at 120.9 mm and 101.5 mm standard length for females and males respectively. The fecundity varies between 30096 and 77158 oocytes for females with total weights of 212.7 and 226.4 grams and ovary weights of 44.6 g and 24.1, respectively.
