The aim of this study was to determine the in vitro antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of the leaves of Ruta graveolens (Ruda), by macrodilution method against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The leaves of Ruta graveolens "Ruda" were collected from the population center of the Commonwealth of Nina Rumi (Highway Zungarococha) is located on the right bank of the Rio Nanay 25 kilometers from the city of Iquitos. The bacteria used, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923; Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, were provided by the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Food Industry National University of the Peruvian Amazon. Extract doses were 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1, 0.5, 0.25 mg/ml, was used as positive control gentamicin 160 mg/2ml. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Food Industry of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP). Phytochemical screening of the ethanol extract made from the leaves of Ruta graveolens (Ruda), the presence of alkaloids, tannins, phenols, flavonoids, saponins, coumarins, steroids, triterpenes, are determined. With the results obtained it was demonstrated that has good antibacterial activity of ethanol extract against the two strains tested, obtaining the concentration of 0.5 mg/ml for Staphylococcus aureus and 0.25 mg/ml for Escherichia coli.
