Paul's Animal Empathy Scale (2000) and Gismero's Social Skills Scale (2010) were applied. Among the main results, a correlation of rs = .56 (p > .05) was found between animal empathy and social skills. It is concluded that there is a strong and significant relationship between both variables. In addition, there is evidence of greater empathy among women who have pets, as opposed to men who also have a pet. On the other hand, there is evidence that younger people have greater social skills than older people, both pet owners.
