AIM Determine the anatomical characteristics of the mandibular canal evaluated in panoramic radiographs of the CERES Radiological Center, Cusco 2018-2021. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional, non-experimental, descriptive study was carried out. 385 panoramic radiographs of patients attended at the CERES Radiological Center, Cusco 2018-2021, were evaluated. RESULTS The averages of vertical and horizontal dimension of the mandibular canals on the right and left side, where the average of the vertical dimension of the left side is greater (16.23mm) than that of the right side, in the same way the horizontal dimension of the left side is greater (48.43mm) than the one on the right side. The morphology of the mandibular canal by side where 90% of the left side has a straight morphology, on the right side 57.4% has a straight morphology. 49.4% of the direction of the right mandibular canal is curved 49.4% and that of the direction of the left mandibular canal is curved with 59.7%. The highest percentage occurs in the single number for both the right and left sides with a value of 96.6% for the left side and 88.1 for the right side. The type with the highest percentage is type 2 for both sides with 59.1% for the right side and 56.8% for the left side. A greater distance from the mandibular canal can be observed in the male sex on both sides where the highest value occurs on the right side with 1.72mm and 1.44mm for the left side. In the female sex, the greatest distance is on the right side with 1.58mm and on the left side a value of 0.56mm. CONCLUSION Most of the anatomical characteristics of the mandibular canal show diversity in the measured parameters, likewise differences are established in the same patient and on each side analyzed. The vertical and horizontal dimension are presented with a higher value on the left side than on the right. The highest frequency of morphology presentation of the mandibular canal is straight. The highest frequency of direction presentation of the mandibular canal is curved. The highest frequency of mandibular canal number presentation is unique. The highest frequency of presentation of the mandibular canal type occurs in type 2. All mandibular canals are asymmetrical, even from the same patient on each side. There is a greater distance from the mandibular canal in the male sex compared to the female.
