This research had the general objective of determining the relationship between the level of research competencies and academic performance in students of the IX cycle of the Professional School of Stomatology at the Universidad Andina del Cusco, 2019-II. The methodology applied for the present work has a correlational descriptive scope with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design, questionnaires were applied to a sample of 35 students using the SPSS version 21 computational statistic, with a margin of error of 5%. Regarding the results, it was determined that there is a significant direct correlation between research skills and academic performance. The level of research competencies in general is medium with an average of 3.06, more specifically in its conceptual and procedural dimensions, and it is medium with an average of 3.46 and 3.48, respectively, while the attitudinal content dimension is low with a average of 2.11. The results revealed some shortcomings in research skills that do not allow excellence to be achieved, especially in its attitudinal dimensions, for which it is important to train teachers and students in new and innovative teaching and learning strategies.
