Introduction: Surgical site infection is a very frequent complication, considered a public health problem because it generates large economic and social losses. Surgical site infection prediction scores are important tools that help in decision making; however, their level of efficacy varies greatly depending on the population studied. Method: Cross-sectional retrospective case-control study conducted in the surgery departments of Hospital Antonio Lorena and Hospital Militar Central in the period 2018 to 2021. A database was constructed from information obtained from medical records with a previously validated data collection form. The data were evaluated using a bivariate logistic regression model to determine the correlation between the score obtained by the NNIS and SENIC scores and their ability to predict surgical site infection. Sensitivity and specificity were determined by constructing confusion tables and analyzing the area under the ROC curve. Results: The research involved 196 patients distributed in case-control groups in a 1:1 ratio. It was observed that the mean age of the population was 38.1 years with a male predominance of 78.4%. The evaluation of the parameters for the logistic regression model showed a significance level <0.0001 for both scales, so there is a relationship between these and their ability to predict surgical site infection. The sensitivity and specificity of the NNIS and SENIC scales were 82.6% - 91.8 and 91.9 - 87.7 respectively. The area under the ROC curve was 0.78 for the NNIS score and 0.87 for the SENIC score, the latter having a better predictive capacity. Conclusions: The performance of the NNIS and SENIC scores in predicting surgical site infection is acceptable, the latter being the one that best fulfills this task.
