Background: The management of upper respiratory infections increases the cost of health care, as well as the inadequate use and increase in the number of prescription drugs prescribed; there is not yet a consensual and standardized management in our environment based on recommendations of these pathologies in charge of those responsible for the care of these patients; that is why the objective is to determine the difference of therapeutic management used in upper respiratory infections in children under 5 years of age in two care centers of Cusco, 2017. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive and analytical study was carried out. The Hospital Management System was reviewed to verify the diagnosis established under the ICD-10, which was contrasted with the medical prescriptions issued in 300 children of the Metropolitan CM and HNAGV. We proceeded to create a database in the SPSS Version 24 program. Results: It was found that there is a statistically significant difference in the therapeutic management of upper respiratory infections in children under 5 years of age in both healthcare centers (p <0.05), where HNAGV (73.3%) performs fewer medical prescriptions, unlike Metropolitan CM (100%) Cetirizine and dextromethorphan were the most commonly prescribed medications for therapeutic management in Metropolitan CM (p <0.05). Conclusions: The therapeutic management of upper respiratory infections in the HNAGV and the Metropolitan CM has established differences in the number of prescribed medications per prescription, unit cost of the prescription per prescription and the type of medication prescribed.
