This thesis describes the seismic response of a building with passive seismic energy dampers as an alternative to improve the earthquake resistant design of reinforced concrete buildings in the city of Cusco, the increased use of this technology in various countries is causing a demand in design codes to specify their use. Additionally, it’s described the types of seismic energy dampers existing, its main characteristics and properties as well as the design and installation at the structural system, then compare structural responses obtained with these devices, and finally made a comparative cost of including dampers versus the costs of post- earthquake structural rehabilitation. It was possible to modify the seismic response of the system, where the loads , stresses and strains of the system had significant reductions, also was able to increase the structural damping system so the building achieving a better energy balance showing more seismic energy dissipation.
