Cusco Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is a city with an extensive history and is distinguished by the juxtaposition of different periods. The morphology of the city is a combination of colonial and republican city imposed on Inca structures with a narrow and rigid orthogonal oultine, with preferably pedestrian paths. Currently, the historic center is suffering different problems, one of them results from the lack of public spaces where only 20% of the total area set aside for use including squares and streets. Also adds the inadequate management of rivers such as the Saphi considered as a latent danger for the historic center and its residents. For this reason, the applied research thesis of qualitative nature focuses on an intervention proposal that aims to undertake the recovery of public spaces Saphi street section and transform this historic sector into and urban environmental axis, reintegrating the urban river to the city. This intervention based on a critical and reflective analysis on data collection and historical documentation, as well as national and international references of similar projects that contribute to the research, it is also oriented towards pedestrians, where through the tour you can appreciate the environment full of tangible and intangible value, as well as a space for relaxing, rest and social interaction. All this through the daylighting, as a global paradigm oriented to the process of restoring the rivers covered by urban infrastructure to return then to their previous condition ensuring its footprint in the city as ecological heritage. Finally, the general objective of the thesis is achieved, by evidencing the feasibility of recovering public space through the reintegration of the Saphi River through Daylighting and its relevance in our context, returning its prominence (urban river) as a daily element and promoting and the connection between the historic urban city with the natural landscape.
