The research entitled “Evaluation of a natural additive in the stabilization of fine-grained soil, under the Technical Standard of Chemical Stabilizers MTC E 1109-2004“ started as an initiative to recover and revalue Peru’s ancestral knowledge. It evaluates the use of a natural additive, based on the use of cacti by our ancestors, to improve the behavioral properties in fine soil. A literature review was initially carried out about the ancestral chemical stabilizers and stabilization of cohesive soils. Different tests were performed to select the optimum additive and the type of fine soil to stabilize. Additionally, the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the chosen additive were studied before moving forward to the geotechnical tests. Samples with and without natural additives were characterized and further evaluated the properties of improved soil behavior through the performance property of workability and support capacity. All experiments were carried out following guidelines of the technical standard for chemical stabilizers in terms of the specific dosage, it was carried out as the patent indicates. The results showed that the increase in resistance of stabilized soil compared to non-stabilized soil is 20%. This is an important indicator that the performance properties in fine soil were improved. Throughout the study, important considerations were considered regarding the humidity used during each of the characterization tests. This methodology was established as the most appropriate because it allowed for solving all the difficulties that arose during the experimental evaluations. It is important to highlight that this was a study in fine soils with significant portions between silt and clay and it presented many variables at the time of the tests. “Anyone who knows only the theory of soil mechanics and lacks practical experience can be a public danger.“ Terzaghi
