The present research analyzes the reduction of accident rates in the project "Expansion and improvement of the flood protection and risk management service along a 38 km stretch of the Huatanay River in Cusco and Quispicanchis". A baseline analysis of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines is conducted, and accidents are described to identify opportunities for improvement. Control measures are implemented through evaluation and IPERC matrices. In 2021, a total of 60 accidents were recorded in the project, including 40 minor accidents, 15 accidents with lost time, 4 cases of partial permanent disability, and 1 case of total permanent disability. Until September 2022, 30 accidents were reported, resulting in lost workdays due to medical leave. The interpretation of accident rates revealed a trend and improvement opportunities using the Deming cycle. Reducing accidents is a priority for safety and health. The objective is to analyze the reduction of accident rates, improve the OHS, and contribute to decision-making. Observation, records, and matrices were used as research instruments. The data show an increase in accident rates in the last months of 2021-2022, particularly in December, with a rate of 50.12%. However, the implementation and compliance with control measures reduced the rate by 5.63%. The OHS management system and the IPERC matrix were enhanced, evaluating and proposing improvements based on safety controls. These actions aim to ensure the successful completion of the project.
