Material and methods: Research of a quantitative, correlational and non- experimental nature of cross-sectional design, the population consisted of 150 boys and girls from the Initial Educational Institution No. 438 Cruz Verde in the district of Poroy, Cusco. The sample was non-probabilistic according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which was a total of 133 children, the technique was clinical observation to determine the body mass index, which determined the nutritional status and the rate of dental caries through the ceod index for temporary dentition, in which the informed consent was requested for the data collection respecting all the ethics norms, for the data analysis a data systematization matrix was used, the descriptive analysis was carried out and for the relationship between the variables bivariate analysis, work with a level of significance of 0.05. Results: The risks of low, moderate, high and very high caries in relation to the present study are mainly related to normal weight, mainly the very high risk and the high risk. According to Kendall's Tau c statistical test, this association was not significant p=0.193(p>0.05). Conclusion: No relationship was found between the dental caries index and the body mass index expressed in the nutritional status, but the caries risk found was between high risk and very high risk according to nutritional status.
