BACKGROUND: COVID 19 is a viral disease caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus that can cause a common cold to more serious diseases; older adults are considered the most vulnerable population to the coronavirus (COVID 19) especially those with comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, among others. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of older adults hospitalized for COVID 19 at the Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital - Cusco, 2021. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective study. General data were collected from the participants. The Data Collection Forms of patients hospitalized with COVID 19 in the period 2021 were used for data collection. The data were processed using the SPSS statistical package for univariate analysis through frequency graphs. RESULTS: The most frequent epidemiological characteristics were: The age group showed an interval of between 65 to 69 years with a distribution of 37.70%; The most frequent age range was considered, of which 64.92% were male patients; 32.98% had a history of contact with patients diagnosed with COVID 19 and 48.69% of patients died from this cause. The most frequent clinical characteristics were: the most frequent sign and symptom was dyspnea with 92.67%; followed by cough with 65.97%; fever with 53.4% and headache with 49.21%. CONCLUSION: The most frequent clinical characteristics: signs and symptoms were dyspnea, cough, fever, headache, among others. Furthermore, it was evident that the most frequent comorbidities were diabetes, obesity and immunodeficiency. The most frequent epidemiological characteristics: sex (male), level of education (secondary education), the majority of individuals did not have contact with patients diagnosed with COVID 19 and 2/3 died.
