Introduction: The progressive decrease of sensitivity and increase of bacterial resistance in urinary tract infections is an important cause of prolongation of the disease, use of higher cost antibiotics and longer hospital stay. Objective: To determine the microbiological profile and bacterial sensitivity in urinary tract infections in hospitalized patients of the internal medicine service, Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital ESSALUD-Cusco, 2017. Material and methods: A non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out in the Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital during the period January to December 2017, in 80 patients who met the selection criteria, who were admitted to the internal medicine service. . A review of clinical histories was performed; a database was entered in the MS Excel 2013 program, with previous analysis independently of each uroculture and antibiogram. The analysis of the categorical data was carried out through the calculation of absolute and relative frequencies. Results: The prevalence of urinary tract infection is 13.6%. The most affected age group is that of 56 to 70 years old with 41.3%, predominantly the female gender with 71.3%. The predominant risk factor is the previous history of urinary tract infection with 57.6%, followed by diabetes mellitus with 33%. The etiological agent isolated in greater percentage is E. coli with 83.8%. ESBL germs represent 36.4%, particularly in patients with previous UTIs and diabetes mellitus. In terms of bacterial sensitivity, E. coli shows sensitivity rates to ampicillin with 16%, ampicillin / sulbactam 19%, quinolones 30%, cephalosporins 53%, aminoglycosides 65%, nitrofurantoin 93% and carbapenems 100%. Klebsiella spp was sensitive to ampicillin, ampicillin / sulbactam, trimethoprim / sulfamethoxazole and quinolones with 33%, within the cephalosporins shows greater sensitivity to cefepime with 83%, 50% aminoglycosides, and 100% carbapenems. Conclusions: the most frequently isolated etiologic agent is E. coli, presenting low sensitivity to penicillins and quinolones, sensitivity> 50% to cephalosporins and aminoglycosides and higher sensitivity rates to carbapenems and nitrofurantoin.
