Abstract: RESUMEN
10 especies forestales, 3 especies forestales nativas y 7 especies forestales exóticas.
In the present research work, the estimation of CO2 capture (Kg., Tn.) was carried out throughthe calculation of the carbon stock in forest species present in the Avenida de La Culturadistrict of San Sebastian, province and department of Cusco. For this purpose, thecharacteristics of the total population of forest plantations were determined, such as diameteat breast height (DBH), total height, wood density, common name, scientific name, genus andfamily of each species. The field work was carried out between March and April 2023. Theindirect or non-destructive method was applied through the allometric equation proposed byChave et al. (2005) to determine the amount of biomass and thus estimate the amount of COcaptured. We were able to identify 980 individuals among 10 forest species, 3 native forest species and 7 exotic forest species. Of the native forest species, the most representative wasthe species Alnus acuminata Kunth (Alder), while the most representative of the exotic forest species was Fraxinus spp (Ash). The most abundant species was Fraxinus spp. representing 86.12% of the total population. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTCformat was used to calculate vehicle capacity and the mathematical formula approved by theU.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was used to estimate CO2 emissions from the vehicle fleet, which determines the amount of CO2 emitted per km traveled. The total amountof aerial biomass of native forest species was 0.799 Tn. with a capture of 1.375 Tn. of COwhere the most representative species was Alnus acuminata Kunth, while for exotic speciesthe total amount of aerial biomass was 84.019 Tn. with a capture of 144.778 Tn. of CO2 beingthe most representative species Fraxinus sp. giving a total of 146.153 Tn. of CO2 captured forthe year 2023. Likewise, it was determined that the average amount of CO2 emitted by thevehicle fleet was 70,190 tons of CO2/day. Therefore, it was concluded that there is asignificant difference between the amount of CO2 captured by native and exotic forest species. On the other hand, the amount of CO2 emitted by the vehicle fleet in the study section is considerably higher than the amount of CO2 captured by the forest plantations present inthe same section.
