The main objective of this study was to investigate in depth the degree of dental esthetics and its relationship with self-esteem in students participating in the professional stomatology program at the Universidad Andina del Cusco. This examination was carried out with a sample of 120 students from the Professional School of Stomatology. Two key instruments were used: the Dental Aesthetics Index (DAI), which assessed the need for orthodontic treatment, and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Test, which assessed self-esteem. The Dental Aesthetics Index (DAI) was implemented to examine malocclusions, assessing 10 specific components by observation, the results obtained revealed a considerable association between severity of malocclusions and reduced self-esteem. After each student completed the dental esthetic index (DAI) data collection process, they were given a questionnaire called the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Test, which was used to assess their level of self-esteem. We were able to determine participants' levels of self-esteem based on their test score, which was calculated by multiplying the number of items answered correctly by a factor. As part of the data collection process, students underwent a clinical assessment and informed consent was obtained. Similarly, a trend was observed whereby a marginal decrease in the degree of self-esteem correlated with an increase in the dental esthetics index. However, a statistical analysis using Kendall's tau b test showed that there was no correlation between the oral esthetics index and self-esteem.
