Slaughtering activities in the Cusco slaughterhouse require large consumption of water and, therefore, generate wastewater with a high organic load, the disposal of which represents an environmental problem. For this reason, the purpose of this thesis is to compare the efficiency of the Fenton and Fotofenton processes in the removal of DBO5 from the effluent of the municipal slaughterhouse of Cusco. In the first place, an evaluation, monitoring and analysis of the physical characteristics, volumetric flow and type of solid and liquid waste present in the effluent corresponding to each stage of the slaughter process registered in the observation logs No. 1, 2, 3 and 4. A diagnosis of the sampling point was made prior to field work, whose methodology and sampling procedures were determined by the "National Protocol for Monitoring the Quality of Superficial Water Resources- RJ.010-2016 -ANA. Consequently, said composite sample was used for the respective analysis of the initial DBO and DQO, as well as for the experimental tests. In relation to the cabinet stage, the Box - Behnken design was used for the distribution matrix of the 30 experiments with their respective levels of parameters such as: 𝐹𝑒𝑆𝑂4. 7𝐻2𝑂, 𝐻2𝑂2 and pH. In the laboratory stage, different pre- experimental tests were carried out, referring to the Fenton process, a jar test was produced in discontinuous batch mode, with a speed of 150 rpm in a reaction time of 1 hour; however, in the Fotofenton process, magnetic stirrers were used and the photoreactor was adequately conditioned with a UV-C lamp (254 nm). The results achieved in the investigation regarding the Fenton process indicate a 93.96% removal of BOD, while the Fotofenton process achieved the removal of 94.63% of BOD from the slaughterhouse effluent.
