Background: In Peru, 2015 the prevalence of people with Diabetes Mellitus reaches 6.9%. Nonadherence to healthy lifestyles is a major problem for the management of Diabetes and its complications. Studies show statistically significant association of non-adherence to lifestyles with poor glycemic control (OR = 5.6). The objective of study was to determine the factors associated with the nonadherence to lifestyles in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at the Regional Hospital of Cusco, 2018 Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was performed in patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, attended in the endocrinology doctor's office of the hospital under study. Non-adherence to healthy lifestyles and their associated factors were determined through a data collection card. Odds Ratio (OR), Chi square test (X2 ), p <0.05 and 95%Confidence Intervals (95 % CI) were used for data analysis. Results: Out of 130 patients, 77.7% were non-adherent to healthy lifestyles. In the bivariate analysis, the variables that were associated with non-adherence to healthy lifestyles were: Non-nuclear family (OR=3.6, p=0.007), family dysfunction (OR=2.6, p=0.02), not having knowledge about DM (OR=2.9, p=0.02), poor glycemic control (OR=7.8, p=0.000), no glucose self-monitoring (OR=4.0, p=0.002), depression (OR=4.3, p=0.001), complications (OR=3.7, p=0.01) and not receive orientation of healthy lifestyles (OR=2.6, p=0.02). Conclusions: The factors associated with non-adherence to healthy lifestyles were: Nonnuclear family, family dysfunction, lack of knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus, poor glycemic control, not having received self-monitoring of glucose, depression, complications and not receive orientation of healthy lifestyles.
