The public prosecutor's office in Peru is the specialized body, responsible for carrying out the legal defense of the interests of the State and is administratively and functionally linked to the State Attorney General's Office. From the beginning of its creation, it had an important role in the State, hence the objective of this research is to analyze the genesis and evolution of the autonomy of regional and local public prosecutors in Peru. The methodology of descriptive analysis was used, for which the different regulations that emerged in our country and that regulated in one way or another the functions of public prosecutors were analyzed, these being contrasted with the needs of our country. From this analysis, we have that the regulations were evolving positively towards the consolidation of their autonomy, observing that the regional and local public prosecutor's offices, despite these regulations, still maintain the limitations that they had a decade ago, since there is a subordination of the public prosecutor with the governor or mayor of the city, the same one who assumes the payment of his remuneration and others. In this sense, it is necessary to consolidate the autonomy and independence of public prosecutors at the national, regional and local levels, without political interference in their powers and functions.
