The present study entitled: “CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROFESSIONAL CHOICE IN STUDENTS OF THE FIRST AND SECOND CYCLE OF THE PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL OF NURSING - UNIVERSIDAD ANDINA OF CUSCO, 2017“ was carried out with the objective of determining the characteristics that the students have in common when choosing a career, had a descriptive, crosssectional design, carried out in a sample population of 53 students. Among the most significant results is that: with respect to the general characteristics of the first and second cycle students, 13% are male and 87% female, (48%) are between 18 and 22 years old. On the economic income of the parents (84.9%) greater than 1000 soles, less than 850 (3.7%). Characteristics of the professional choice: (75%) was in disagreement as to who chose the nursing profession because they had no other option, (81%) disagreed with the fact that they study nursing because they did not achieve another score for another profession, (69%) disagreed that they studied nursing for the salary they could earn, (72%) disagreed about studying the nursing profession because of the influence of their family environment, (85%) study nursing to practice the profession, (78%) study the nursing profession because it demands, observe, learn, investigate, assess, and solve problems, (69%) of students believe that the nurse must be an efficient, meticulous person, ordered and self-controlled, (86%) agreed that the nursing profession makes an important contribution to society, finally (73%) believes that the nursing profession is for empathic people capable of understanding the needs of others.
