Abstract The production of Portland cement is harmful to the environment, it produces CO2, NOx, dust and uses a lot of water. Hydrocolloids such as Gellan gum have been investigated and have been found to improve the strength of soils; however, a collateral effect is that they increase the plasticity of the soils, making them more deformable. The objective of this thesis was to determine the effect of the incorporation of Gellan gum and physiological serum on the simple compressive strength and consistency of a clay in the Rupaccata area of the district of San Sebastian, Cusco, Cusco, 2023. An experimental design was used to prove by means of an ANOVA and ANCOVA analysis that there is a significant effect of Gellan gum on the consistency of the soil, being this substance capable of increasing its plasticity by up to 100%, likewise, it has been demonstrated that the physiological serum added to the soil reduces both the plastic limit and the plasticity index, It is also demonstrated that Gellan gum is capable of increasing the resistance of the clay studied by up to 60%. Finally, it is concluded that the physiological serum has no significant effect on the resistance, i.e., it neither increases nor decreases it.
