This research entitled “Recognition of the Textiles de Chinchero as an Appellation of Origin within the framework of Decision 486 of the Andean Community Commission” has been developed with the aim to describe the reasons why the Textiles de Chinchero should be recognized under this distinctive framework; furthermore, to determine the role of public and private entities to design the procedure for obtaining an “Appellation of Origin“. In order to carry out this objective, the methodology was descriptive and explanative. The collection data technique used was the interview, through the use of different questionnaires, which were coded into different categories. Besides, we compared the analysis of the file of the recognition of the Cerámica de Chulucanas as an Appellation of Origin, in which we were able to observe the contain in itself and the stages of the procedure. Finally, it was determined that the main characteristic of the Textiles de Chinchero is related to a human factor, as it derives from ancestral knowledge. This characteristic plays an important role in considering the Textiles de Chinchero as a potential “Appellation of Origin “. In addition, the procedure was designed to carry out the objective, involving different public and private entities.
