Introduction: Helicobacter pylori infection is probably the most common infection in humans, in 2017 a seroprevalence was found for patients with or without gastroenterological complaints of 63.6%, while in people of low socioeconomic status it remains high with a 80% In Cusco, only in the district of Wanchaq, a prevalence of 89.61% was found, reflecting the increase of cases of patients infected by this bacterium at present. Objective: Identify the factors associated with Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with dyspepsia in the Hospital Antonio Lorena of Cusco, 2018. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out. The type of sampling is non-probabilistic, selecting patients older than 18 years with symptoms of dyspepsia, attended by external Gastroenterology office. The Odds Ratio (OR), the Chi square test (X2) and the 95% confidence intervals were used for the data analysis using the statistical program SPSSv24. Results: A frequency of infection by Helicobacter pylori of 61% was found in the studied population, which presents the highest tendency in the female sex represented by 70.2%.The associated factors were regularity of meal schedules (p = 0.000), type of water supply (p =0.001, OR = 10.370, 95% CI [2.208-48.699]), place of childhood residence (p = 0.002, OR = 4.375, 95% CI [1.639-11.675]), handwashing (p = 0.000, OR = 28.571, 95% CI [8.17299.894]) and socioeconomic status (p =0.002, OR=4.838, 95%CI[1.771-13.214]). Conclusions: In our study it was evidenced that regularity of meal times, place of residence in childhood, hand washing and socioeconomic status are factors associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. No association has been demonstrated with smoking or withalcohol consumption.
