The objective of this research work is to determine the relationship between the prevalence of cavities and the level of knowledge about oral health in students from the 1st to the 5th grade of secondary school at the educational institution “CEMA MEAD” Cotabambas, Apurímac 2023, the study is descriptive. , quantitative approach, correlational, non-experimental and cross- sectional, sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience, the sample was made up of 135 students, a questionnaire was used to collect data on the level of knowledge about oral health, the CPO-D index to assess the prevalence of caries, in the results no association was found between the prevalence of caries and the level of knowledge about oral health p=0.739, the prevalence of caries was 98.5%, with an average of the CPO-D index of 6.6, this being “very high”, the level of knowledge about oral health was regular with 77.0%, it was found that as the level of knowledge decreases the index increases according to the Kruskal-Wallis H statistical test, this difference of means was significant p=0.00. No significant difference was found in terms of the level of knowledge about oral health and school grade p=0.083, nor was there an association with sex p=0.453, however the association with age was significant p=0.010, in the same way it was not A significant difference was found between the level of caries and the school grade p=0.699, nor with sex p=0.797, nor age p=0.098, in conclusion according to the chi square test there was no significant association between the prevalence of caries and the level of knowledge about oral health p=0.739.
