The increase in the older adult population is a global fact attributable on the one hand to an increase in life expectancy as well as to a contraction in the birth rate. This means that the health conditions inherent to this stage of life are made visible, with neurodegenerative diseases being particularly important. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of a sensory enrichment program (PES), based on the Amazonian forest, for the control of amnestic cognitive impairment, considered the prelude to Alzheimer's disease. Starting from a population of 51 older adults (MA), and applying inclusion, exclusion and elimination criteria, two equivalent groups of 9 AM each were formed, which they participated, with prior informed consent and a quasiexperimental design, being comparable in the Memory alteration test (TAM) score in the pre-test. The PES, consisted of two 90-minute weekly sessions, into city, for eight weeks with exposure to videos, reminiscence, and drawing of representatives of Amazonian biodiversity. Moreover, four incursions were made into the forest under the forestry bath approach. The post-test results showed a significant and favorable effect of the PES through an increase in the TAM score, with the indicators immediate memory and free evocation memory being those that contributed to this effect, but not the memory indicators of temporal orientation, semantic remote memory and evocation memory with tracks. It is concluded that the PES, as a non-pharmacological intervention, is relevant to attenuate amnestic cognitive impairment in AM, being necessary to improve the contents of the activities outside and inside the forest in such a way that there is a greater sensory supply that enhances the neuronal plasticity and stimulate neurogenesis.
