This research thesis was carried out in the Cusiqocha basin, located in the district of Chinchero, province of Urubamba, department of Cusco. The main objective was to evaluate the average annual rate of water erosion through SWAT and USLE models in the Cusiqocha basin, Chinchero district, Urubamba province - Cusco department. The problem addressed focuses on soil loss due to water erosion in the Cusiqocha watershed, a relevant concern for water and soil management in the area. Water erosion can have significant negative impacts, such as soil degradation, reduction of water retention capacity and, to a greater extent, desertification. To carry out the soil loss estimation, rainfall data were collected from stations near the study watershed. These data were used to make a specific regionalization for the Cusiqocha watershed and to obtain the rainfall erosivity R factor. In addition, soil samples were taken in the Cusiqocha watershed to determine the soil erodibility factor K. The topography factor LS was calculated using an elevation model generated from a topographic survey of the watershed and the use of GIS software. Likewise, the P factor for control practices was determined using the same elevation model and GIS software. To estimate the C factor, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) images were used and GIS software tools were also used. Water erosion levels for the Cusiqocha watershed, according to the USLE methodology, were calculated using ArcGIS software, and an average annual water erosion rate of 11.82 t/ha/year was obtained, indicating a MODERATE degree of degradation. On the other hand, using the SWAT model through the QSWAT extension of the QGIS software, an average annual water erosion rate of 17.51 t/ha/year was obtained. The results obtained in this study provide important information on soil loss due to water erosion in the Cusiqocha watershed, allowing appropriate measures to be taken for the management and conservation of water resources and soils in the area.
