The carbon cycle is determined by the storage and transfer of carbon molecules between the atmosphere, biosphere, lithosphere and oceans. The forests of Polylepis sp located in the valleys and Andean zones have an important role as a carbon reserve and as a contribution to the ecosystem, which allows the regulation of the climate and the environment. The objective of this research allows us to estimate the carbon stock stored in the Polylepis sp forest - Llaullipata sector - Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park. The RAINFOR methodological manual was used using the non-destructive method. Therefore, it was evaluated on a plot equivalent to 1 hectare with a measurement of 20x500 m, then it was divided into 25 subplots with measurements of 20x20 m. In each subplot, all individuals with DAP>10 cm were measured, where 250 individuals of the genus Polylepis sp were recorded. To estimate the carbon content in canopy leaves, 25 digital photos were taken with a hemispherical lens, which are processed through the “CAN_EYE” software, this allows the calculation of the leaf area index (LAI). Through a collection of 40 leaves from each subplot, the leaf area was calculated through the “Image-J” software, and their weight to obtain the dry weight of leaves per unit area (LMA). Therefore, 25 samples of canopy leaves from each sampling point were evaluated. To estimate the carbon content in stems and branches, DAP and total height were measured, with which the biomass was obtained through the “Schumacher-hall” allometric equation. The result of the amount of carbon stored in the canopy leaves of the Polylepis sp forest was 0.454 MgC/ha -1 . The result of the amount of carbon stored in stems and branches of the Polylepis sp forest was 277,939 MgC/ha -1 . The result of the carbon stock stored in the 11.5 ha Polylepis sp forest was 278,393 MgC ha -1 .
