Down syndrome is a genetic disorder in which there is an extra chromosome in the pair “21.“ Oral problems are among the top 10 causes that limit their activities, such as dental caries. The etiology of dental caries is salivary pH, which plays a key role in maintaining normal conditions of oral tissues and is a very important protective factor against dental caries. The objective of the present investigation was to establish the relationship between salivary pH and the rate of dental caries in students with Down syndrome at the Don José Special Basic Education Center in San Martin del Cusco. A factor that has been recently explored is pH, since its decrease allows the selection and proliferation of cariogenic bacteria. The investigation was correlational, quantitative, not experimental, transversal, field and observational. The most relevant result was that there is no relationship between dental caries index and salivary pH. Also, the most frequent level of caries severity is moderate. There is no association between the level of dental caries and salivary pH.
