This thesis has to objective perform proposals of geometric redesign of level intersection named “Ovalo Libertadores” in base on the geometric design of the current situation, applying the TRL method for capacity calculation, analyzed against current and projected vehicle flows at 25 years; with of the purpose of improve the operational behavior in the redesign proposals of this intersection; this study zone is a joint of greater degree of conflict because it connects important attractor poles in the city, vehicular traffic is defined by the geometric design of the intersection which is affected by not presenting characteristic of roundabouts . The information in this intersection and their approaches was collected where it was made a vehicle count also was made a topographic survey, a collection semaphore cycle and road inventory of traffic signal, otherwise queue lengths by approximation were determinate during peak demand time. The evaluation of the operational behavior was carried out trough of vehicle flows, capacity of the intersection, queue lengths and level of service; the geometric design current was evaluated, also for the four the redesign proposals, three of these proposals a level and the last with consideration of an overpass as in the project “Mejoramiento integral de la Vía Expresa”. The geometrics designs are based on the consideration a criteria of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program NCHRP Report 672 for multilane roundabouts. The TRL method was used to calculate the capacity, for queue lengths and level of service were determinate by using the software Junctions 9 Student Version through ARCADY module and the verification of redesign proposals through the Vehicle Tracking software for the swept path within the intersection of the T3S3 vehicle design. Level of service F was obtained in the current situation; levels of services B were obtained in the proposals with current vehicle volumes and level of service C and D were obtained in the vehicle projected at 25 years Finally, it is concluded that the redesign proposals of level intersection named “Ovalo Libertadores” present a better operational behavior because geometric characteristics and adequate implementation of traffic control devices.
